Bethlehem Mission Prayer Requests for August 2008

Please note that there is a special offering envelope included with this August Messenger for the Todd Roeskes' Mission in Alaska. There is also a copy of "The Tagakaulo Tribune", an update on the ministry Todd still supervises in the Phillippines. Please note that our missionary pictures and letters are now down on the lower level on the Women of Bethlehem Bulletin Board. There is a new picture of the Roeskes they took especially for us, showing the beautiful Alaskan scenery behind them!

Most of our weekly prayers this month, besides the one for the Roeskes, will be focusing on the new missionary families who are this month moving to their posts-big adjustment for both log and short-term missionaries and their families!

Here are those special prayers on which you can focus in your daily prayer time:

August 3 - The Todd Roeskes in Alaska
Please pray for Todd as he divides his missionary efforts between their post in Copper Center, AK and overseeing the Tagakaulo, Phillippines churches that had been planted while they lived there. Pray also for Kim and their four girls, Audrie, Kalae, Karis, and Amani.

August 10- New Missionaries Leaving for the Field
Praise God for those new missionaries, both short and long-term, who have left their homes, places of work, families, and comfort zones to support the ministries of partner churches and LCMS mission fields around the globe. Pray that God would grant peace and comfort to the loved ones who are saying "good-bye" to those who are being sent out. Ask God to send his holy angels to guard and protect the footsteps, ground travel, flights, and other transit of new missionaries as they prepare to journey abroad.

August 17- Health of the New Missionaries
Pray that God wil sustain the health of the new missionaries as they undergo much stress and that He would keep them in good health as they face new illnesses and environments. Pray also that God would provide what is needed at hte right time for each of these new missionaries as they encounter feelings of helplessness, loneliness, or anxiety in their new settings.

August 24- Language Learning and Friendships
Pray that the new missionaries would be able to learn effectively the language and culture where they are serving, so that Jesus' love would be proclaimed loudly through their words and actions. Pray also that Jesus' love would shine boldly through the relationships and friendships that these missionaries form. Pray, too, that it will be possible for the new missionaries to maintain frequent communication with family, friends, and supporters.

August 31- Children of Missionaries
Pray for the "Missionary Kids," who will also be facing culture shock and unknown challenges - that God would protect their young bodies and keep them healthy. Praise God for the special role that children play in building relationships with new people and for their unashamed witness that Jesus' love is real!
